All of our adopters must be at least 21 years of age.
We ask that you have a stable housing situation and a verifiable phone number. If you have a landlord, we will check to confirm that pets are permitted.
All adults in the household have to be in agreement with the adoption and be willing to take part in caring for the dog.
We ask that potential adopters have the ability to provide proper care for the pet including consistent veterinary care, food, supplies, training and also be able to provide any unexpected emergency veterinary care should it be needed.
Understand that this is a long term commitment to the pet.
We will ask you to complete an adoption application. Once we receive the application, a member of our applications team will acknowledge receipt by email. Please be sure to include your email address on your application.
We will review your application, check your references and speak with your veterinarian (if you have existing pets). Once we have checked your application, we will schedule a virtual home visit. Upon successful completion of the virtual home visit, we will ask you to come to our adoption event to meet the dog you are interested in to see if it is a good fit for your family. If you have a dog in your home, we will ask that you bring him with you so they can be introduced.
Once you have been approved to adopt, you will be asked to sign a contract and pay an adoption fee.
These are general guidelines and we are happy to discuss any of them with you. Please understand that this process takes several days to complete - we are a 100% volunteer organization.
Our adoption fees include micro chipping, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, age appropriate core vaccinations, heartworm testing in dogs over 8 months of age and are as follows:
If the animal you are interested in adopting is not yet spayed or neutered, or if you have other pets or young children in your home, Happy Tails Dog Rescue asks that you "Foster with Intent to Adopt". This is a program that allows you to take the dog into your home for one week to insure that it is a good fit for your family. You leave a portion of the adoption fee as a show of good faith. If at the end of the week you feel that it is a good fit for your family and the animal has already been spayed/neutered, we ask you to finalize the adoption at the end of the week and pay the balance of the adoption fee. If the animal is too young to be spayed/neutered, we ask that you continue to foster the animal; once the puppy or kitten is old enough to be spayed/neutered, we will schedule the appointment at one of the animal hospitals we use and finalize the adoption on the day of the spay/neuter.
All families that foster with intent to adopt have one week from the date that they take the animal to determine if it is a good fit for the family. If you decide after one week that it is not a good fit for you, your deposit will be refunded to you when you return the animal to Happy Tails Dog Rescue on the date specified and at a location to be determined by the rescue.
Please complete an adoption application if the dog you are interested in is already spayed/neutered. If there are other animals or small children in your home, please complete the foster with intent to adopt application.
Please complete the foster application if you are interested in becoming a foster for Happy Tails Dog Rescue and giving our dogs/pups a temporary place to rest their heads while we find their forever homes.
Please complete this application if the animal you are interested in is not yet spayed/neutered or if there are young children or dogs or cats in your home. It gives approved applicants an opportunity to take the dog or puppy home for one week to see if it is a good fit for the family. Please contact the rescue for more information on this program.
